Road Trips, Writing & Readathons | Month In Review: August 2018

I'm back with another monthly review! I've had quite a lot going on in August but, being the summer and having some time off, I have also had some days where I've been busy doing "nothing".

Here's what I got up to in August…

At the beginning on the month I was lucky enough to attend a John Lewis blogger event, which is quite different from the other blog events I usually attend. I had an amazing time with my friend and fellow-blogger Jess, looking at new makeup and skincare products from MAC, Urban Decay, Charlotte Tilbury and Liz Earle. We also previewed the new season fashion trends in store and took a lot of photos in front of this flower wall. You can read my full review of the event here.

I was lucky enough to be a part of the blog tour for My (Secret) YouTube Life. I got to interview author Charlotte Seager, which you can read alongside my review here.

As well as My (Secret) YouTube Life, there were a lot of other great books being released in August. There was The Light Between Us by Katie Khan, who has written another phenomenal book that had me hooked, which I reviewed here (Katie also included me in the acknowledgements which was the sweetest thing ever, it actually made me cry). I also reviewed Louise Pentland's second book, Wilde About the Girl, which continues to follow Robin Wilde, who we met in her first book, Wilde Like Me. You can read that review here.

I also attended a wedding this month, which gave me the chance to wear this beautiful dress by Maya Deluxe. I have had so many people ask me about this dress, which was purchased through ASOS. The whole brand does some stunning dresses for different occasions so they are worth checking out!

I also found myself in Portsmouth one day after deciding to do a spontaneous "road trip" type day. I basically consisted of me saying the night before that I wanted to go out somewhere for the day that I hadn't been before, then waking up at like 6am and deciding to go to Portsmouth. It was a lovely day out. We visited the dockyard (so it was educational too), did a boat tour, had lunch by the harbour (pizza!) and had a lovely walk along the sea wall. Honestly, sitting by the sea with a coffee in the sunshine was one of my happiest August moments.

Jess and I then attended another blogger event, which was also very different to the events I would usually attend. This time we were at Jump Street Chelmsford, where we got to have a go at the various activities they have to offer. We had a go on the trampolines (obviously!) and did some wall climbing amongst other things. You can read my full blog post here.

It was then time for my 24 hour readathon to raise money for Rays of Sunshine. I have to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported me, my friends and fellow bloggers who were taking part, we beat our fundraising target and all managed to complete the readathon. Thank you again to everyone who took part in the readathon with me, with special thanks to Emily, Kelly and Molly! You can see my readathon wrap-up post here and you can still donate.

I also went on a last-minute day trip to Brighton with my family. We all went to Brighton last summer, minus my brother, but this time we were all able to go. We went up the British Airways i360 tower, walked along the beach and down the pier, and tried some local food and drink. My favourites were the unicorn fizz iced tea from Bird & Blend Tea Co. and the ice cream from Boho Gelato. I had a scoop of coconut ice cream, which was a favourite of mine last time we went there, and the honeycomb doughnut flavour, which was amazing!

As well as having lots to do this summer break, I have also taken time for myself. I've just relaxed and done a few things that I wanted to do, such as reading, going on a few shopping trips, having coffee with friends and writing. When I say writing, I have been typing up blog posts but I have also been editing and redoing some of the novel that I wrote last year during NaNoWriMo. You can watch my vlogs from last years NaNoWriMo challenge here. I will be taking part in NaNoWriMo again this year but I haven't decided if I'm going to start writing up another idea that I've had for a while now or if I'll just focus on editing my current work-in-progress.

Here are the books I read in August:
Everless
Alex and Eliza
Lean on the Offbeat
The Light Between Us
Wilde About the Girl
Songs About a Boy
That's Not What Happened
After the Rain
A Change is Gonna Come
The Crucible (reread)
Sam & Isla's Last Hurrah
Orbiting Jupiter (reread)
The Hundred and One Dalmatians
Cruel Heart Broken
Your Turn To Die
The Last Piece of My Heart
A Court of Frost and Starlight (reread)
To All The Boy I've Loved Before (reread)
You Only Live Once
Save the Date
After the Fire (reread)
The Unexpected Everything

I'm also currently reading Theatrical, but I have about 80 pages left. I'm loving it and hope to finish it over the next few days before I go back to work.

I can't believe I've read 23 books this month! I owe a lot of it to the 24 hour readathon, seeing as that was 9 of this months books, but that's still a lot of reading!

And the films I saw at the cinema:
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Christopher Robin

I really need to start using my unlimited card more!

Overall, I have had some days packed with events and others that have given me time to just chill out and have some me-time.

The day I am posting this is the day that I'm at Sundown Festival with my friends, having a great time and seeing Shawn Mendes live for the first time (Is it weird that I've met him in person before seeing him in concert?)

Anyway, happy September everyone. We're one step closer to my favourite season!
