I am beyond excited to be a part of the Just Don’t Mention It blog tour.
I read the entire Did
I Mention I Love You? Series (also known as the DIMILY series) last year, as well as Estelle’s first stand-alone
book, Dare to Fall. I loved all of
them, so as soon as I saw that she was writing a companion novel to go with the
DIMILY series, from Tyler’s point of
view, I knew I had to have it!
I was very fortunate to be sent a copy of Just Don’t Mention It by the publishers,
as well as being asked to take part in the blog tour. Obviously I jumped at the
chance, so thank you Ink Road for this opportunity.
I was also very grateful that when this book arrived on my birthday, it was signed by Estelle. The best birthday surprise to come home to!
I am going to do a review of this book, so keep reading
for that, but I also want to say a little bit about why I needed this take on
the story…
I adored the series, as I have already mentioned, and I
loved reading from Eden’s perspective. However, Tyler is such a complex and
interesting character which left me wanting to know more about him.
I attend a monthly YA book club at a local bookstore and
one of the questions that always comes up, no matter which book we are
discussing, is “If you could read this book from another character’s
perspective, who would you choose?”
Sometimes this question is quite difficult to answer and
there isn’t one particular, stand-out character that you are interested in
hearing from – or maybe there’s more than one – but when reading the DIMILY books, all I wanted was more on
Tyler. I needed to know more about his background, his past and his thoughts as
he went on this journey with Eden.
When Estelle announced that she was writing something
from Tyler’s side I was incredibly excited. Originally, I thought we might just
get a little novella with a short backstory, about his dad and his life growing
up, showing how he became the boy we met in Did
I Mention I Love You? but I was over the moon when I discovered it was
going to be a full-length novel.
A book that I felt that I needed – not just wanted – and never
thought would actually end up existing is now out in the world (it was released
on 21st June. Order it here!)
So, now that I have it and have read it, let me review it
for you…
Estelle Maskame’s writing has had me hooked with every
other book she has written and this one is no different.
She just has the
beautiful, relatable way of writing that makes you connect with the storyline
and the characters early on.
It doesn’t just draw you in though, it keeps you
engaged the whole way through. Estelle’s writing always keeps me interested and
wanting more, to the very end.
The storytelling is also spot-on. A few people I’ve
spoken to have questioned whether this book is worth reading, saying “but it’s
just the same book all over again.” I’m here to tell you no, it is not the same
book being repeated. The present day plot with Eden is the same but it is so
much more.
It delves into Tyler’s past in such raw, haunting detail that it
really helps to put his characteristics into perspective.
It’s more than just
about him and Eden. As much as I love the romantic aspect of these books, it
was important to share Tyler’s life and struggles. Basically, know that this
companion novel works and that I have a long list of reasons as to why!
As this is Tyler’s story, the focus is on him. However,
this look into his life gives us more on other characters that we didn’t see
too much of in the previous books. The main one being Tyler’s dad. If you’ve
read the DIMILY series then you will
already know about Tyler’s situation, but this book really gets into it.
If you
haven’t read the other books: Number one, why not? Number two, I won’t spoil
anything for you by discussing details but you should definitely go and read
them all!
I adored this book – if that wasn’t already clear – and I
am happy to say that I rated this book:
I can’t imagine my bookish world without Estelle’s books.
She is definitely in my top five authors of all time.
Her writing is amazing. I can't wait to see what she does next!

would be as a movie or a TV series? Because I have and I need it! I’ve even
thought about who I would like to see play the roles of Eden and Tyler. Let me
