It's guest post day, and here today with her summertime reading recommendation is my friend Jess.
Jess and I attended YA Prom together last month so she understands my love of books and the feeling is mutual. I very proudly introduced her to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, so we're on this reading journey together forever now that she loves Sarah J Maas too!
Anyway, read on to see what Jess would recommend to you this summer...

This
summer, I could recommend a copious number of books to read. In my opinion,
there’s nothing better than spending the summer out in the sun (or if you
prefer, indoors escaping the heat) with a good book. Books have that amazing
ability to make you forget yourself, forget your stresses and worries, forget
where you are completely and transport you to a different place. There have
been many occasions where I have been so submerged in a book that I’ve lost
track of time, missed my stop on the train or forgotten I’m in an airport,
needing to be swiftly reminded by my boyfriend that we needed to board the
plane and I, in fact, couldn’t spend my day sat in the departure lounge
reading.
Out of all the books I’ve read,
and all the places I’ve visited in those books, there is always one place I
keep returning to. It’s my favourite escape and no matter how many times I go
there, I never get bored. That’s why I’m recommending that this summer you
delve into the wizarding world and get lost in Harry Potter and The Philosopher's
Stone.
Yes,
it is officially classed as a children’s book but that’s one of the best things
about it. J.K Rowling’s books were a massive part of my childhood, I remember
eagerly waiting for the release date of the newest Harry Potter and then
devoting the next few days to devouring every page. Why wouldn’t you want to go
back to something you loved as a child? It’s like when you play your favourite
childhood game or eat your favourite childhood sweets and all those happy
memories and emotions come rushing back. If Harry Potter wasn’t a big part of
your childhood, then
1. I’m sorry you missed out
and
2. It’s never too late to go to Hogwarts!
The
Philosopher's Stone will always be my favourite because it’s the introduction to
the wizarding world. I love Harry’s letter from Hogwarts listing all the
equipment he would need for school, platform 9¾, The Hogwarts Express and of
course, learning about all the subjects at Hogwarts. How cool is potions? Even
if the professor is a nasty, villainous character.
The
Philosopher's Stone is also nice because it’s not too long. Sometimes a thick
book can be quite daunting and can take quite a lot of dedication to get through
so a smaller book is a good choice for a fun summer read.
Here’s
where a lot of people will say ‘I think I’ll just watch the film’ and inside I
feel like screaming. Let’s settle this. The films are incredible, there is no
denying that, and I have spent a huge amount of my life watching them, but the books are a thousand times better.
Of course, every small detail in the books couldn’t be added to the films so
there are so many things you miss if you “just watch the film”. Don’t be one of
those people. Visit your local library, borrow the book from a friend, Amazon Prime it, somehow get your hands on this book and revolutionise your
summer.

YAY! Another Harry Potter fan! I'd love to know...
What Hogwarts house are you in?
Bonus points for you if you know what house I'm in!
I also received these incredible Harry Potter bookmarks as a gift from a colleague last month:
Horcrux bookmarks! I'm so in love with them. The only struggle is deciding which one to use each time!
A huge thank you to Jess for sharing her book recommendation. Her new blog has just been launched, so check that out here.
I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, and I haven't reread the books in a long time, but I may add the first book (and maybe even the second) to my readathon TBR pile.
