10 Years of the MCU: My Top Ten Marvel Movies

Back in 2016, I wrote a blog post listing my top ten films by Marvel Studios. A lot has changed since then, and with the release of Avengers: Infinity War tomorrow I thought, "What better time than to have another look at my favourite Marvel movies and see if my top ten are the same."

I'll give you a clue: It's not the same. Otherwise, I would have simply shared my old blog post and saved myself the trouble of rewriting this. There have been so many incredible MCU films since I last ranked my top ten, so I couldn't let this opportunity pass. I had to shuffle my favourites up and add some new ones in.

So, in reverse order, here are my ten favourite Marvel movies...

10. Iron Man
I love Iron Man, he's one of my favourite Avengers and he's the man who kind of started it all in the MCU. I love Robert Downey Jr, he is a fantastic actor and a true Marvel legend, and I couldn't have this list without him. I can't believe this was ten years ago!

9. Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America is my favourite Marvel superhero, so I had to include the first solo film of his. It's not the best Captain America movie (just to give you a hint of what's to come further down the list) but I still love watching this and seeing where it all began for him.

8. Spider-Man: Homecoming
I have never been a huge fan of Spider-Man. I liked the previous Spider-Man films with Sony, they just weren't my favourite. However, the moment I saw Tom Holland as Peter Parker, I knew this was going to be something special. I enjoyed the first look at him in action in Captain America: Civil War, but I loved this solo film. It was had Zendaya, who I adore.

7. Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch is one of my favourite actors, so when it was announced that he was going to star in a Marvel movie, I literally screamed. He was the perfect choice for Doctor Strange and I've lost count of how many times I've watched this since it was released. I actually went to watch this a few days after I got married. We could have been on a mini honeymoon, but I decided we needed to be close to home to see this movie! It was worth it.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy
I wasn't sure about this film when I first saw the trailers, but I have never been happier to be proven wrong. With an incredible soundtrack, a perfect cast which includes a talking tree, and the right balance of action and humour, I fell in love with it. Groot is definitely my favourite character and I will admit that I love him a lot more as Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but the first film is still my favourite.

5. Black Panther
Only released in February, this film has rocketed into my top five Marvel movies of all time. I saw this four times at the cinema over a two week period and I'm not even sorry! I was recommending this film to everyone, even those who don't enjoy superhero movies. I do know a few people who weren't so keen on this one, but I loved it. Chadwick Boseman is incredible, as are the rest of the cast.

4. Thor: Ragnarok
The Thor movies have always been favourites of mine, mainly because I love Tom Hiddleston as Loki. But out of all three solo films, this one is definitely my favourite. The action was great, as was the soundtrack, and it still had that same humour that I loved in Thor: The Dark World. Plus we got a small cameo by Doctor Strange in this too. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston in one Marvel movie gets a big thumbs up from me!

3. Avengers Assemble
This was the moment when I realised how much I loved these Marvel characters and movies. Seeing them all come together and interact makes this a firm favourite. Plus, we get Tom Hiddleston again, who played the perfect villain in this. I liked Avengers: Age of Ultron, but this was definitely the better film in my opinion. It was action-packed and had the right amount of humour.

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
In second place is another Captain America film. This one is in my top three because of the superb acting skills of Sebastian Stan, who plays the Winter Soldier/Bucky. This movie was my absolute favourite for a long time, with Black Widow's character playing a key role which I loved. She was the first female superhero I really enjoyed watching. I hope we see more of her in future films.

1. Captain America: Civil War
Finally, in my number one spot, is Captain America: Civil War. This movie was number one back when I first ranked these films in 2016 and it hasn't moved since. It will take a lot to make this one drop down on my list. Even though this was about two of my favourite superheroes fighting each other, it was incredible. We were introduced to Black Panther and Tom Holland's Spider-Man, we got to see more of Bucky after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the storyline was brilliant.

------------------------

So there we have it. My current top ten Marvel films. I'm almost 100% certain that this will change within the next twenty four hours as I'm seeing Avengers: Infinity War tomorrow (so look out for my spoiler free review coming soon!), but I just had to get my Marvel fix in the lead up to this epic release.

Do let me know what your favourite MCU movie is, and who is your favourite Avenger?
