Blog Tour: The Accidental Wizard by Kimberly Pauley | The Accidental Wizard Challenge & Book Review

Hi! It's my turn on The Accidental Wizard Blog Tour today!

I'll be bringing you a review of the book as well as having a go at The Accidental Wizard Challenge!

Read on to find out more...

First, let's start with The Accidental Wizard Challenge!

THE ACCIDENTAL WIZARD CHALLENGE
A spellbinding quiz all about the world of magic

What would you rather be: a wizard, a witch or a hag?
Definitely a witch - I reckon I could rock a witch hat!

Who would win in a wizard duel: Gandalf or Dumbledore?
I hate to choose between the two - I love them both - but if I really I had to pick, I'd go for Gandalf!

If you could be ANY creature from a fairy tale or folklore, what would you be and why?
I love the idea of being High Fae, being part of the faerie nobility in the fae world. That way, I'd get to have those cool elf-like pointed ears and have some unique abilities that other faeries might not have.

Choose your favourite wizard: Harry Potter or Merlin?
Merlin is a classic character but I know more about Harry Potter than Merlin, so I'd have to go with Harry - but that's more with the story he has as a whole rather than just him as a wizard.

If you could have just one magic spell that would always work for you, what would it be?
I'd love a spell to get me ready in the morning. The thought of being able to cast one spell that would sort my hair, makeup and outfit, that would save me a lot of time!

If you were accidentally granted a super power or ability, what would it be?
To transport from one place to another quickly. It would be so nice and easy to be able to teleport back home when I've forgotten my lunch or send myself somewhere with a nice view when I want to relax with a book.

Before I move on to the review, here is the synopsis for The Accidental Wizard:

Twig is the last surviving apprentice of the
great wizard Ripplemintz, which, as a job, is just
as terrifying as it sounds. Oh Ripplemintz always
means well, but for a wizard of such high regard
he really does make an awful lot of mistakes.
And who's always left to clear them up? That's right - Twig.

So when Ripplemitz's most powerful spell is let
loose on the world, off Twig goes to catch it.
And catch it he does, except... not quite in the
way that he intended. Because, instead of catching it in an enchanted
jar, Twig sort of... well... catches it in... HIMSELF.

This book was so much fun! When Twig ends up being the most powerful wizard by mistake, he - and a few friends that he meets along the way - go on a fantastic adventure. It was fun, it was silly and it was a real page-turner.

The characters were brilliant, I loved the conversations between them as they explore this magical realm. I think Vile was my favourite character; I just loved her reactions and comments and the way she is in general.

I loved Kimberly Pauley's writing style. It flowed beautifully, making want to keep reading more and more, and the world building was excellent. I do love a fantasy book but it's always a million times better when the world is created in such a way that you can truly picture it and imagine the journey through it.

I also loved the illustrations by Jason Cockcroft. The art within the pages was such a lovely treat and they really added to the story, from the drawings of the characters and settings to the sparkles and leaves around the edges of pages.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it's one that I will be taking into school to share with the children in my class too.

You can by your copy of the book here.
